Traffic and travel to the racecourse

Arrive early. Cheltenham, Aintree, Epsom and Ascot fill the surrounding roads. Festivals are often easier by train or park-and-ride than by pointing a car at the members’ car park at noon.

Leaving is the other half of the problem: few exits, everyone standing up at once. Walk back to the car before the last race, or sit tight until the jam moves.

Check live traffic before you set off (RAC, AA, or the national journey planner).
