A Guide to British Racecourses
How to Place a Bet
There are many different types of bets you can place at the racecourse. If you are a complete novice you would be better off locating the Tote betting windows and picking up one of their useful guides.
The more experienced punter can read articles about betting at the racecourse, at the bookies and online betting at the Flatstats website:

Don't forget that you can bet anywhere with a mobile phone. You can be at the race track, look at the horses in the paddock, choose your selection and place a bet on one of the betting exchanges to get even better value. Whilst that should allow you to get more profit in the long term there is no better feeling than queing up at the Tote window, or at a bookies pitch to pick up a wad of cash!
If you do find yourself in this situation you should always try and remember the experience. This is a good positive affirmation technique which you can use to train your subconcious to help you pick more winners in the future. Remember the situation as strongly as you can. Remember the sounds, the smell (of the bookies sweating!), the weather, the temperature. When the bookie counts out the money and gives you a big bunch of twenty's remember his words. If he says "congratulations pal!", or "grrr, here you go" then let it stay with you always. You beat the guy and you can be back later to do the same thing again.
Everyone has a losing spell where nothing they back seems to win. But remembering a winning moment can help to lift you out of the gloom. It will help you to get focused and into winning again.
Gambling is a risky business. Never bet with money you can not afford. If you are new to horse racing betting then put aside a small bit of cash for betting and expect to lose some or all of it!
